Building on their latest underfoot platforms of Nike React and Nike Air innovations, the newest addition to the diverse array of energy-return cushioning has arrived with the introduction of the Nike Joyride.
Nike turns the Air Max dial up 720 degrees and goes beyond where its ever been with the Nike Air Max 720. Lead Nike designers, Dylan Raasch and Jesi Small, who lead Nike Sportswear’s Air Max footwear division, set out to create a sneaker for those on their feet for hours at a time. With this established at the core of the project, the vision to create a shoe which communicates comfort and support in more ways than one, had all roads leading to one place; 360 degrees of air. First appearing in 2006 with the Nike Air Max 360 I and II, the 720 doubles down on Air Bag cushioning, boasting an Air Unit visible from 360 degrees both horizontally and vertically. Looking to elevate on previous Air Max silhouettes, Nike took things to higher planes, crafting an air bag 6mm taller than the Air Max 270, crowning it as the tallest ever Air Unit created. Nike also exaggerates the air bag laterally, with the thickest portion of the bag residing around the border of the foot; the result is a cradling of the foot to deliver maximum energy return as well as secure stability. The upper also takes a step into the unknown. Boasting futuristic motifs which utilise unorthodox shapes, the wave-like pattern, the and synthetic upper delivers comfortable support while the mesh material brings easy breathability throughout.
