Another Tinker Hatfield masterpiece sat on the Nike mantle, the Nike Huarache is a timeless silhouette staying true to Nike’s athletic roots. First released in 1991, the design stripped back on signature swoosh branding and let the technological marvel that it was, do all the talking. Inspired by water-skiing footwear Tinker had become infatuated with, Nike was initially skeptical of its potential in the market. However, after seeding the product at a New York marathon in the 90’s which had runners begging for more, the legend of the Huarache was born. The lightweight runner landed at just 270 grams which featured a bootie fit liner utilising a blend of lycra and neoprene materials for a shoe that hugs the foot. Throughout the evolution of the Nike Huarache, the shoe managed to blur lines between running sneaker and basketball legend. Made famous by the University of Michigan’s Fab Five which included the likes of Chris Webber and Jalen Rose, the Introduction of the Nike Air Flight Huarache, the heightened ankle piece allowed the lightweight performance of the original to translate to the hardwood.

This version re-works the original upper with a lightweight construction for enhanced comfort, opting for leather, synthetics and mesh for balanced performance and protection.
